How to learn to meditate without personal master? From books?

Spiritual part of meditation – the basis

We can often read about meditation and spiritual development in many publications. This is not an easy subject to express. Thus, in many inspired works authors use comparisons, stories, write about the practice of meditation, they don’t write directly about meditation. Good literature (as a good teacher) should inspire, interest, force to our own search.

Every person from every different book will draw the contents for oneself. We look for something. Something individually tailored to our needs. The following literature released in me desire… of knowledge? Enlightenment? Anyway, these books were very important for me :)

Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
Wind, Sand and Stars
The Little Prince
Night Flight

Anthony de Mello
Awareness
The Song of the Bird

An unknown author
Tao Te Ching

Carlos Castaneda
A Separate Reality

The technical part of the meditation – details

The subject of techniques is very wide: meditation in motion (eg, Tai-chi), the static form (hatha yoga), meditation with mantra, etc. For each of them a number of valuable publications can be found.

I can’t recommend any of them, beacuse I haven’t read anything interesting :)

What other publications do you know? Which are worth recommending? I’m waiting for your comments :)
